Caring For Your New Cat

What to Expect

Adopting a new cat or kitten is so exciting! Our hearts are filled with so much happiness and love with our new companion. Because we already love them so much, it can also cause a bit of anxiety as we want to do everything right. We’ve collected the most important things for you to know here in one place.

Acclimation

Your cat will be anxious at first just as you are during the acclimation period. Acclimation time varies from cat to cat, but we can do a lot of things to make this transition easier.

Feeding

It may seem simple, but helping cats to get the proper diet takes a bit of self education and effort. Cats have a higher protein requirement than other domestic animals and in fact need it to survive.

Supplies

Be prepared with all the things you need to help your new cat settle in, from kittens to seniors.

Litter Box Etiquette

The number one reason for returns is litter box problems. Start off on the right “box” and things will go much smoother.

Play Time & Bonding

Play time helps control weight as well as provide mental clarity for your cat. Play time also promotes bonding.

Claws

Cats have claws for many reasons, such as self protection, climbing and picking things up. Cut them but never remove!

Future Planning

What to do if your cat needs expensive veterinary care, and how to create a plan if you are no longer able to care for your cat.
