Mew believes that no one should have to surrender a pet they love dearly because of finanical hardship.
Mew Cares is a program that focuses on building community partnerships and expanding services to help address resource inequity in Northwest Arkansas. Our team partners with our community and pet owners to help provide several resources to support a whole family model to increase pet retention and deter unnecessary pet surrender. Our goal is to help pet owners resolve the problems they are experiencing so they can keep their pet. That may be providing vet services, cat food and litter or at times even paying a rental pet deposit.
Our shelters and rescues are always at full capacity. The more NWA grows, the larger the need becomes. Owner surrender requests are starting to outpace requests for help with strays. By providing cat owners with thes things they need to keep their cat, they can stay in their current loving homes where they belong and out of shelters.
We want to thank the Bozie Foundation that has made this program possible in 2024!
Angel
Angels owner came to us with a persian kitty who was having continued problems with his eye. His owners had already spent a great deal of money on him and couldn’t afford any more and the eye continued to get worse. In addition his owner had kidney disease so was struggling to care for himself. Instead of having him surrender to us, we paid for all of Angels eye surgeries and meds to keep the owner and his kitty together. Angel is living his best life now.
Midnight
Midnights owner came to us asking to surrender, because they had to move and could not afford the pet deposit at the new location. Midnight was 14 years old and moving would be extremey stressufl. If he were surrendered to us, we would struggle to find a new owner at his age. Instead of surrendering, Mew paid the deposit (direct to landlord) so that the owner and Midnight could stay together!
John Watson
This is Mr John Watson. His owner posted for help on a Gravette city FB page and our Director saw it within a few seconds and offered help. Mr Watson was unable to urinate, crying, and was expelling small amounts of blood. John was transported to the ER and his life was saved that day! He’s doing great with his family now.
