Foster A Cat

All About Fostering

As a foster parent, you bring a cat (or kittens!) into your home for a limited amount of time and play a major role in helping that cat to be ready for adoption.  We have several types of fostering available to meet every lifestyle and schedule. Join the #mewteam today!

Kittens

There’s nothingl ike the joy of kittens! They normally come in litters, anywhere from 2- (gulp) 6! Kittens can be ready for adoption as soon as they reach 2 and a half pounds, which is typically 8-9 weeks, and they adopt fast.

Adult

Adults are a breeze to foster, and have an average length of stay of 1- 2 months. Adults can often go from a foster home into our Petco program once they are ready for adoption.

Backup

Backup fosters make their homes available for short term care when a regular foster home is on vacation or temporarily unavailable. This is our shortest stay at just around 1 week.

Medical

A bit more intensive, some cats have medical conditions which require extra attention or recovery time. If you have medical experience (vet tech or nursing for example) this is super helpful. Medical fosters normally move to a “regular” foster when possible.

Bottle Babies

This is the most urgently need. Just born babies who have lost their mamma need feeding every 2-4 hours for a couple weeks. Without a bottle feeder, the kittens will die.

One Week Observational

Some cats can be a quick turnaround to go into our Petco in-store program. They just need approximately one week in a foster home to get them ready to be adopted.
